Alternative Energy Vehicle Competition

Picture
In 2002, our school was invited to compete in the Sanilac Career Center Electric Car Competition. 2010 school year saw us with 5 cars in competition including one running on our own biodiesel (Hence the name change this year). There are three classes of vehicles. The Prostock class limits the vehicle to a single 12 volt battery and the Advanced Design class allows for up to 36 volts. The third class is Biodiesel that requires vehicles to run on "homemade" B-100. The vehicles compete in a drag race, an obstacle course, a sled pull and a car show. The final competition is a one hour endurance race. Students must design and build each vehicle from scratch. All students in my program participate, but the focus is on a senior project. Students look forward to this project all year.
